From Food Waste to Food Rescue

VOICE has taken the concept of Feeding the 5,000 down to the local level by creating ‘Food Rescue’, where local communities work with their local shops and producers to make a neighbourhood meal out of food that would have been thrown away.

Since launching this project in 2013, VOICE have facilitated food rescues events of all shapes in sizes across Ireland. We made Biryani for 300 Clonakilty locals, hosted a Disco Soup with Galway's Transition Towns and brought food waste to festivals including Five Lamps Arts Fest, Zero Waste Festival and Street Feast.

Through these events we can help people reduce their household food waste and help them save money. One household in Ireland wastes between €700 and €1000 a year on wasted food, but through better meal planning, smart shopping and creative cooking families can save money and prevent food waste from harming the environment.

When food waste goes to landfill, it rots and releases methane. Methane is 20 times more harmful than CO2 and both of these gases contribute to climate change.

From making simple changes in the kitchen, together we can play a big role in fighting climate change.

If you are interested in hosting a Food Rescue event we'd be happy to help you make it happen!
